In questo libro c'è davvero tutto. Da Michelangelo che crea la Cappella Sistina ai conclavi che vi si sono svolti. Il sacco di Roma dei lanzichenecchi e la Guardia Svizzera. E poi la vendita delle indulgenze e lo Ior, l'immenso potere economico nelle loro mani, spesso e volentieri usato non a fini di bene, i Templari e l'Opus Dei.
Il ritratto che ne esce non è edificante. Il Vaticano viene visto come un accentramento di potere immenso nelle mani di gente che, in tutti i tempi, l'ha usato per i propri fini.
Non so se Augias sia credente, praticante o meno. Da questo libro non direi, ammetto.
Ma ha scritto un libro completo, interessante, senza alcun tipo di servitù mentale. Forse, se proprio devo fare un appunto, troppo pieno di storie tutte insieme che si intrecciano. Facile perdere il filo dietro tutti quei dettagli.
Comunque, da leggere con la sua stessa libertà.

I was raised in the Christian religion, and like the 99% of the children of my generation, I received all the sacraments. Then going forward with age, faith has been lost and now my interest in the Vatican is essentially historical and artistic. As one can not believe, that little piece of the world within the city of Rome has an important history.
In this book there is really all about. From Michelangelo who created the Sistine Chapel to the conclaves that were held. The sack of Rome by mercenaries and the Swiss Guard. And then the sale of indulgences and the IOR, the immense economic power in their hands, more often than not used for bad purposes, Templar and Opus Dei.
The portrait that emerges is not uplifting. The Vatican is seen as a huge centralization of power into the hands of people who, in all times, used it for their own ends.
I don't know if Augias is a believer, practitioner or not. Judging by this book I would say no, I admit.
But he wrote a comprehensive book, interesting, without any kind of mental servitude. Maybe, if I have to make a note, too full of all stories together that are intertwined. Easy to lose the thread behind all those details.
However, to read with his own freedom.
