Uno degli argomenti che maggiormente mi interessa è la caccia alle streghe. Da cosa è nata, in quale ambiente sociale e politico fa i suoi accusatori e le sue vittime, come muore. Luisa Muraro dà in questo saggio una nuova analisi, chi sono le donne che sono state riconosciute come streghe, leggendo le carte dei processi. Caterina Ross, Barbara Marostega, Domina Ludi, Antonia Comba, Anna Maria Sertora. Storie diverse che ci portano a creare un quadro più completo e interessante del fenomeno. Raccontandoci le loro storie, la Muraro ci spiega anche come funzionava, cosa succedeva alle famiglie e alla società intorno a queste donne, perchè la caccia alle streghe si è conclusa.
Il libro è assolutamente interessante, ricco delle trascrizioni fedeli dei processi.
E allora, perchè ho dato solo 3 stelle? Il perchè forse non me lo so spiegare nemmeno io. Perchè trovo palesi tutti i fattori positivi di questo libro, l'interesse, la completezza, ma insieme l'ho trovato pesante da leggere e troppo scarne le parti di spiegazione del ambiente sociale e politico. L'80% del libro sono le trascrizioni dei processi, e per quanto sono assolutamente d'accordo che siano interessanti, lasciano meno spazio all'approfondimento, per quanto sia sempre di grande livello della Muraro. Eppure, non sono riuscita ad appassionarmi a questo libro, a trovarlo interessante come avrei voluto e dovuto. Ma siccome la lettura è molto soggettiva, devo essere sincera. Probabilmente per qualcun altro è stato il libro della vita ma per me... ni.

Caterina Ross, Barbara Marostega, Domina Ludi, Antonia Comba, Anna Maria Sertora. Different stories that lead us to create a more complete and interesting picture of the phenomenon. Telling us their stories, Muraro also explains how it worked, what happened to the families and society around these women, because the witch hunt ended.
The book is absolutely interesting, full of faithful transcriptions of the processes.
So why did I give only 3 stars? The reason maybe I can't even explain myself. Because I find obvious all the positive factors of this book, the interest, the completeness, but I found it heavy to read too and the parts of explanation of the social and political environment are too bare. 80% of the book are the transcripts of the processes, and as far as I absolutely agree that they are interesting, they leave less space for further study, although it is always of great level. And yet, I was not able to get excited about this book, to find it as interesting as I wanted and owed. But since reading is very subjective, I must be honest. Probably for someone else it was the book of life but for me... not so much.

Il primo libro di una delle mie scrittrici preferite, tanto che l'ho letto immaginandomi la sua voce che lo leggeva.
L'autrice non è ancora la Murgia che conosciamo, e nel gennaio del 2006 accetta un lavoro in un call center che vende aspirapolveri, il Kirby. Usando lo schema narrativo del blog, ci racconta il suo lavoro, i suoi capi, ma soprattutto le sopraffazioni psicologiche e i giochi di potere dei capi, il gioco di persuasione delle clienti, tutti gli escamotage per arrivare al risultato finale che è vendere un aspirapolvere che vale più o meno 500 euro per la somma esorbitante di 3000 euro.
E' davvero un mondo dell'orrore che ci viene raccontato in questo libriccino, un mondo dove l'unica cosa importante è sfruttare chi lavora per noi e con noi, dove gli unici barlumi di gentilezza e spirito di squadra vengono visti come luci in fondo al tunnel.
Difficile pensare che Murgia stia esagerando per spirito narrativo, per quante volte la stessa situazione l'abbiamo sentita raccontare da chi conosciamo o da chi denuncia la situazione. Purtroppo, temo che poco sia cambiato in un mondo lavorativo, come quello italiano, che si profila come una vera e propria guerra tra poveri.
E' il suo primo libro, ma c'è già lo stile inconfondibile, tra denuncia sociale e ironia pungente. Fantastica Murgia.

The first book by one of my favorite writers, so much that I read it imagining her voice reading it.
The author is not yet the Murgia we know, and in January 2006 she accepts a job in a call center that sells vacuum cleaners, the Kirby. Using the narrative layout of the blog, she tells us about her work, her bosses, but above all the psychological overwhelm and power games of them, the persuasion game of the customers, all the tricks to arrive at the final result which is selling a vacuum cleaner that worth more or less 500 euros for the exorbitant sum of 3000 euros.
It is really a world of horror that is told to us in this little book, a world where the only important thing is to exploit those who work for us and with us, where the only glimmers of kindness and team spirit are seen as lights at the bottom to the tunnel.
It is difficult to think that Murgia is exaggerating due to the narrative spirit, for how many times we have heard the same situation told by those we know or who report the situation. Unfortunately, I fear that little has changed in the world of work, such as the Italian one, which is emerging as a real war between the poor.
It is her first book, but there is already the unmistakable style, between social condemnation and pungent irony. Fantastic Murgia.

Forse uno dei libri più importanti e fondamentali del femminismo, per quanto la diretta interessata si scansasse da quell'etichetta.
Questo Il taccuino d'oro è la storia di Anna Wulf, raccontata da lei stessa, in un raccontare e analizzare ogni dettaglio della sua vita, che sia il rapporto con la figlia, la sua giovinezza, il suo comunismo, il suo rapporto con gli uomini, il suo rapporto con le donne. Tutto quello che vive e sente lo racconta e lo analizza. Le protagoniste del libro sono Donne Libere, definizione contenuta nello stesso libro, donne che si aprono alla libertà, che cercano di liberarsi dei clichè e delle gabbie in cui le donne sono state rinchiuse. E' un percorso complicato e accidentato, il cammino verso la libertà si scontra ancora spesso con la volontà dell'uomo.
E' un libro importante perchè mette al primo posto completamente le donne e le loro vite, il loro mondo, le loro esigenze, quello che desiderano e che vogliono. Pubblicato nel 1962, per alcuni aspetti può apparire superato, ma a me ancora sembra molto attuale e moderno. Saremo abituati a un modo di comunicare diverso, ma i temi e le relazioni sono incredibilmente simili a quelli di oggi.
All'interno del racconto, nel taccuino giallo, troviamo anche un meta-racconto, la storia di Paul ed Ella, alter ego di Anna. Ognuno dei taccuini, infatti, parla di un diverso argomento della vita di Anna, fino all'ultimo, il Taccuino d'oro, che verrà regalato all'ultimo amante, e che segnerà l'inizio di un nuovo periodo sereno.
Un libro di cui si dovrebbero fare recensioni molto lunghe e molto più esaustive e complete di questa, un libro che se le merita per la sua importanza e per la vastità degli argomenti.

Maybe one of the most important and fundamental books of feminism, as far as the author concerned was avoiding the label.
The golden notebook is the story of Anna Wulf, told by herself, in a narration and analysis of every detail of her life, the relationship with her daughter, her youth, her communism, her relationships with men, her relationships with women. Everything that she lives and feels, she tells it and analyzes it. The protagonists of the book are Free Women, a definition contained in the same book, women who open themselves to freedom, who try to get rid of clichés and cages in which women have been locked up. It is a complicated and bumpy journey, the path to freedom still clashes often with the will of man.
It is an important book because it give priority to women and their lives, their world, their needs, what they want and desire. Published in 1962, in some aspects it may appear outdated, but to me it still seems very current and modern. We will be used to a different way of communicating, but the themes and relationships are incredibly similar to those of today.
Inside the story, in the yellow notebook, we also find a meta-story, the story of Paul and Ella, Anna's alter ego. Each of the notebooks, in fact, speaks of a different topic in Anna's life, to the last, the Golden Notebook, which will be given to the last lover, and which will mark the beginning of a new peaceful period.
A book whose reviews should be very long and much more comprehensive and complete than this, a book that deserves those for its importance and the vastness of the topics.

Come ho finito di leggere la Saga di Malaussene, ho deciso che avrei letto anche i restanti libri di Pennac. Ovviamente, avevo già letto Come un romanzo, esiste davvero qualcuno interessato ai libri che non l'abbia letto?
Ho iniziato con questo Mio fratello, e devo dire che è splendido. Meno surreale e magico della Saga, ma assolutamente bello.
Pennac scrive questo libro in onore e in ricordo del fratello, Bernard, morto per un errore medico durante un'operazione. Sempre in onore suo, organizza una serie di letture di Bartleby lo scrivano, un riferimento a una battuta usata dal fratello. La storia racconta in parallelo la storia di Bartleby e delle reazioni allo spettacolo, e la storia dei due fratelli, del loro rapporto.
L'ho trovato un libro molto delicato, il racconto della storia dei due fratelli è molto affettuoso. Apprezzo quando i sentimenti vengono espressi attraverso un libro, è una cosa che faccio anche io e che capisco.
Libro davvero bello, letto in una sola mattinata ma sono riuscita a entrare completamente nella storia.
Pennac si erge a uno dei miei scrittori preferiti.

As I finished reading the Malaussene Saga, I decided that I would also read Pennac's remaining books. Obviously, I had already read "Reads like a novel", is there really someone interested in books that hasn't read it?
I started with this My brother, and I must say that it is splendid. Less surreal and magical than the Saga, but absolutely beautiful.
Pennac writes this book in honor of and in memory of his brother, Bernard, who died from a medical error during an operation. Always in his honor, he organizes a series of readings by Bartleby the scrivener, a reference to a joke used by his brother. The story tells in parallel the story of Bartleby and the reactions to the show, and the story of the two brothers and of their relationship.
I found it a very delicate book, the story of the two brothers is very affectionate. I appreciate when feelings are expressed through a book, it's something that I do too and I understand.
Really nice book, read in a single morning but I managed to get completely into the story.
Pennac stands as one of my favorite writers.

Il circolo dei romanzi di Coe sulla famiglia Trotter si è chiuso per me con questo libro. Ho fatto un percorso non lineare, iniziando con l'ultimo, Middle England, e poi ripartendo dall'inizio con il primo e adesso finisco con quello che in realtà è il secondo. Sono tornata poi brevemente all'ultimo, quasi a spiegarmi finalmente certi passaggi che precedentemente mi erano oscuri.
Ambientato a cavallo del 2000, durante le vicende dell'Inghilterra di quegli anni e la loro influenza a livello sociale. Tony Blair, la guerra in Iraq e l'avvento dei movimenti di estrema destra. In parallelo, riprende i nostri protagonisti più maturi, alle prese con la vita adulta, donne e uomini sulla quarantina. Oltre a Benjamin Trotter, hanno maggiormente spazio il fratello Paul, politico inizialmente conservatore poi impegnato nel partito laburista, cinico ed egocentrico, e Claire, amica di scuola del gruppo, tornata a Birmingham per riprendere in mano la sua vita.
Un romanzo da cui non sono riuscita a staccarmi perchè dovevo sapere cosa sarebbe successo poi, non tanto per i colpi di scena ma proprio per l'affetto verso i protagonisti, come se fossero degli amici. E così ti preoccupi per Benjamin, che sembra sempre così con la testa per aria, vorresti dirne quattro a Paul, vorresti prendere a schiaffi Malvina, perché l'hai capito dal primo istante chi è.
Coe ti racconta le loro storie senza lirismi, senza complicanze o excursus filosofici. La storia di un gruppo di amici raccontata a un gruppo di lettori amici.
E adesso devo ammettere che mi sento davvero come avessi detto addio a degli amici, come li stessi tradendo passando ad altri personaggi.

The circle of Coe's novels about the Trotter family closed for me with this book. I did a non-linear path, starting with the last one, Middle England, and then starting from the beginning with the first one and now I end up with what is actually the second. I then returned briefly to the last, as if to finally explain to me certain passages that previously were obscure to me.
Set at the turn of 2000, during the events of England in those years and their social influence. Tony Blair, the war in Iraq and the advent of far-right movements. In parallel, it takes up our most mature protagonists, struggling with adult life, women and men in their forties. In addition to Benjamin Trotter, his brother Paul, the initially conservative politician then involved in the Labor, cynical and self-centered, and Claire, a friend from the group's school, returned to Birmingham to take up her life again.
A novel from which I couldn't break away because I had to know what would happen then, not so much for the twists but for the affection for the protagonists, as if they were friends. And so you worry about Benjamin, who always seems so with his head in the clouds, you would like to give Paul a telling off, you would like to slap Malvina, because you have understood from the first moment who she is.
Coe tells you their stories without lyricism, without complications or philosophical excursus. The story of a group of friends told to a group of friendly readers.
And now I have to admit that I really feel like I said goodbye to friends, like I was betraying them by switching to other characters.

Secondo giro con il diario minimo, e secondo giro di grande divertimento. Questo è maggiormente diviso in sezioni tematiche, tutte incredibilmente spassose. Anche qui surreali recensioni di capolavori della letteratura, revisioni strampalate della storia, giochi di parole a non finire.
Il più divertente tra i libri intelligenti, o il più intelligente tra i libri divertenti.
Come che sia, approfittare dell'estate per leggere qualcosa di leggero ma di altissima qualità.

Dal 1959 al 1961 Umberto Eco cura la rubrica Diario Minimo, e ne raccolse i pezzi più significativi nel 1963 per questo libro.
Io ve lo devo dire. Questo libro è una gemma.
16 pezzi di divertissment, piccoli pezzi di umorismo di altissimo livello, tra cui i famosissimi Fenomenologia di Mike Bongiorno e l'Elogio di Franti, e altri pezzi meravigliosi come una recensione dei Promessi Sposi come fossero opera di Joyce, le note degli editors per l'Odissea e la Divina Commedia e lo studio antropologico di Milano visto da degli antropologi delle isole Samoa. Meravigliosi!
Una lettura consigliatissima, l'altissimo livello culturale di uno spiritosissimo Umberto Eco.

From 1959 to 1961 Umberto Eco edited the column "Misreadings", and collected the most significant pieces in 1963 for this book.
I have to tell you. This book is a gem.
16 pieces of divertissment, small pieces of humor of the highest level, including the famous Phenomenology of Mike Bongiorno (famous host in Italian Tv) and The Praise of Franti (character of the book "Cuore- Heart"), and other wonderful pieces as a review of The Betrothed as they were by Joyce, the notes of the editors for the Odyssey and the Divine Comedy and the anthropological study of Milan seen by the anthropologists of the Samoa islands. Wonderful!
A highly recommended reading, the high cultural level of a very witty Umberto Eco.

Misreadings

E' ormai qualche anno che ho un grande amore per il Premio Nobel Mario Vargas Llosa. E' iniziato tutto con un saggio in cui parlava in modo incredibile della società attuale, con un'ampiezza di vedute e insieme un'attenzione al dettaglio stupefacente. Quando sono venuta a conoscenza di questo libro è entrato dritto nella mia ToReadList. Mario Vargas Llosa che mi racconta la storia di una femminista che non conoscevo, che si dà il caso che tra le altre cose fosse la nonna di Gauguin, non aveva pari.
Il libro racconta entrambe le vite, un capitolo una e un capitolo l'altro, due anime alla ricerca del proprio paradiso, in un caso un paradiso sociale, nell'altro un paradiso artistico e personale.
Personalmente, ho trovato molto più interessanti i capitoli dedicati a Flora Tristan, femminista e attivista, i suoi incontri con gli operai, la sua vita, il suo fervore nel voler cambiare un mondo molto duro per le aree basse della popolazione. Molto interessanti anche i capitoli di Paul Gauguin, nessuna sudditanza psicologica di fronte al grande artista. Un uomo alla ricerca del suo posto nel mondo e nell'arte, sicuramente un grande talento, ma anche un uomo al limite della follia per la sifilide, un uomo che ispira poca simpatia a chi legge e soprattutto di fronte alla morale del 2019.
Uno degli aspetti che maggiormente ho amato di questo romanzo e di tutta la produzione di Mario Vargas Llosa è il suo stile narrativa, la scelta lessicale. Sempre elegante e meravigliosamente descrittivo.
Libro bellissimo, per storia e stile narrativo, sia nei tantissimi riferimenti all'arte di Gauguin.

It's been a few years since I have a great love for the Nobel Prize winner Mario Vargas Llosa. It all started with an essay in which he spoke about today's society, with a big breadth of views and an astonishing attention to detail. When I learned about this book, it went straight into my ToReadList. Mario Vargas Llosa telling me the story of a feminist I didn't know, who happens to be the grandmother of Gauguin, among other things.
The book tells both lives, one chapter for her and one chapter for him, two souls in search of their own paradise, in one case a social paradise, in the other an artistic and personal paradise.
Personally, I found the chapters dedicated to Flora Tristan, feminist and activist, her meetings with the workers, her life, her fervor in wanting to change a very hard world in the poor areas of the population, much more interesting. The chapters by Paul Gauguin are also very interesting, no psychological subjection to the great artist. A man in search of his place in the world and in the art, certainly a great talent, but also a man on the verge of madness because syphilis, a man who inspires little sympathy from the reader and above all in front of the morality of 2019.
One of the aspects that I most loved about this novel and all of Mario Vargas Llosa's production is his narrative style, the lexical choice. Always elegant and wonderfully descriptive.
Beautiful book, for history and narrative style, both in the many references to the art of Gauguin.

In un rovesciamento della Metamorfosi di Kafka, qui non abbiamo un uomo che diventa uno scarafaggio, ma una blatta che prende possesso del corpo dell'uomo più importante d'Inghilterra: il Primo Ministro.
Potrebbe benissimo succedere oggi, la storia raccontata in questo ultimissimo lavoro di Ian McEwan. Un libriccino di circa 100 pagine che è stato scritto, come ci ha detto proprio l'autore, di getto, pensando alla Brexit.
Come dicevo, una mattina una blatta si sveglia e si ritrova nel corpo del Primo Ministro Inglese, Jim Sams. Dopo il primo momento di spaesamento e di conoscenza con il suo nuovo corpo, si e ci rendiamo conto che i sensi della blatta sono rimasti, insieme alla conoscenza del mondo del suo precedente proprietario. Da qui, parte una delle operazioni più spregiudicate della politica, il Reversalism. Quasi una curva a U, quasi spregiudicata quanto la Brexit...
Ian McEwan è riuscito a scrivere un trattato di politica e di tecniche comunicative usando la Metamorfosi di Kafka. Del resto, quale spiegazione migliore di quello che sta succedendo, se non che una specie di insetti abbia preso possesso delle menti degli uomini più potenti del mondo? C'è spazio anche per un riconoscibilissimo presidente degli Stati Uniti, uno che non si vorrebbe disturbare alle sei di sera perché si sa impegnato a guardare la tv.
Ho adorato questo lavoro dello scrittore inglese, ironico, arguto, intelligente, potente nel suo essere così piccolo. Come sempre, livello di qualità altissimo.
Quest'anno Ian McEwan ci ha viziato, con un romanzo e questa novella. Fosse sempre così!

After the first moment of disorientation and knowledge with his new body, it and we realize that the senses of the cockroach have remained, with the knowledge of the world of its previous owner. Starting from here, part of one of the most unscrupulous operations of politics, the Reversalism. Almost a U-shaped curve, almost as unscrupulous as Brexit...
Ian McEwan has been able to write an essay on politics and communication techniques using Kafka's Metamorphosis. After all, what better explanation of what is happening, if not that some kind of insects have taken possession of the minds of the most powerful men in the world? There is also room for a recognizable president of the United States, who one wouldn't want to disturb at six in the evening because everybody knows he's busy watching TV.
I loved this work of the English writer, ironic, witty, intelligent, powerful in its being so small. As always, very high quality level.
This year Ian McEwan spoiled us with a novel and this novella. Oh, what if it were always like that!

Solo dopo aver iniziato le prime pagine, ho pensato che io di questo libro avevo già sentito parlare. E in effetti il titolo italiano non aiuta molto, ma questo volumetto è stato un caso mondiale come recita la fascetta. Si è parlato molto di questo libro perchè affronta il tema del rimettere a posto le proprie cose, i propri documenti, sbarazzarsi di roba inutile, quando si è in età avanzata e si vuole lasciare tutto a posto per il momento della nostra morte.
Il fatto è che il libro non è per niente cupo o deprimente, ma è proprio come vi immaginate il libro di una simpatica signora avanti con gli anni. E' intelligente, educato, divertente, sentivo un gran calore confortante leggendolo.
E' pieno di buon senso, pieno di giusti consigli che possono applicarsi a chi, come me, ancora non è tra gli 80 e i 100 anni ma si rende conto, guardandosi attorno, di avere una casa piena di cose per la maggior parte inutili.
Inizierò sicuramente a fare una pulizia stanza per stanza, e a rendere la mia casa non obbligatoriamente pronta per la mia morte ma una casa accogliente, piena di vita, dove trovarmi a mio perfetto agio.

Only after starting the first few pages, I thought that I had already heard about this book. And in fact the Italian title doesn't help much, but this little book was a worldwide case as the band tells. Much has been said about this book because it deals with the issue of tidying up one's things, one's documents, getting rid of useless stuff, when one is old and wanting to leave everything in place for the time of our death.
The fact is that the book is not at all gloomy or depressing, but it is just as you imagine the book of a nice old lady. It is intelligent, polite, funny, I felt a great comforting warmth reading it.
It is full of common sense, full of right advice that can be applied to those who, like me, are not yet between 80 and 100 years old but realize, looking around, that they have a house full of things for the most part useless.
I will certainly start cleaning room by room, and make my home not necessarily ready for my death but a cozy home, full of life, where I can be at my perfect ease.

The Swedish art of tidying up

Il mio primo approccio con questo romanzo di questa scrittrice è nato dalla lettura della sovraccoperta. Mi sembrava parlasse di me, cercavo una risposta e forse quel libro me l'avrebbe potuta dare.
In realtà ho chiuso l'ultima pagina sentendomi insoddisfatta. Il tema del romanzo è molto interessante, quel momento nella vita di una persona in cui ci si trova fermi in un punto che però non è quello in cui ci sentiamo bene. Quando vuoi qualcosa di diverso ma tutto intorno è insipido. Noioso. Finché a un certo punto qualcosa si smuove, qualcosa di nuovo, qualcosa che cancella tutto quello che di banale e noioso c'era nella tua vita e ti proietta verso un nuovo periodo più interessante.
Il problema è che l'unica cosa interessante del romanzo, e mi scuso davvero con l'autrice, è il tema. La narrazione è divisa in tanti piccoli capitoli che raccontano una scena della vita della protagonista. Storie di vita quotidiana, incontri, luoghi. Ma niente che mi abbia risvegliato, tutto molto piatto. Temo sarà uno di quei libri di cui non mi ricorderò a breve.
Apprezzo davvero che l'autrice abbia voluto scrivere questo libro nella nostra lingua, in onore dell'Italia dove ha vissuto per qualche tempo. Ma probabilmente la difficoltà di scrivere in una lingua non sua ha molto limitato il suo campo, per quanto sia rimasta una certa eleganza, che farà parte del suo stile, che sia in italiano o in inglese. Non ho mai letto nient'altro di suo, non posso dire se quando scrive nella sua lingua madre sia diversa e come, se si permette maggiori profondità. Io non sono rimasta per niente contenta di questa lettura. Fosse stato un romanzo più lungo, probabilmente sarei andata direttamente al finale e l'avrei abbandonato.

My first approach with this novel by this writer started by reading the dust jacket. It was like it was talking about me, I was looking for an answer and maybe that book could have given it to me.
Actually I closed the last page feeling unsatisfied. The theme of the novel is very interesting, that moment in the life of a person in which we find ourselves at a point that is not the one in which we feel good. When you want something different but everything around is bland. Boring. Until, at a certain point, something moves, something new, something that erases all that was trivial and boring in your life and projects you towards a new, more interesting period.
The problem is that the only interesting thing about the novel, and I really apologize to the author, is the theme. The narration is divided into many small chapters that tell a scene of the protagonist's life. Stories of everyday life, meetings, places. But nothing that has awakened me, all very flat. I'm afraid it will be one of those books that I won't remember soon.
I really appreciate that the author wanted to write this book in our language, in honor of Italy where she lived for some time. But probably the difficulty of writing in a language that is not her own has limited her field very much, although a certain elegance has remained, which will be part of her style, whether in Italian or English. I have never read anything else of her, I cannot say if when she writes in her mother tongue it is different and how, if more depth is allowed. I was not at all happy with this reading. Had it been a longer novel, I probably would have gone directly to the finale and abandoned it.

Pur non essendoci mai stata, l'Islanda è uno di quei luoghi mitici che scatena la mia fantasia e dove sogno un giorno di andare. Nel frattempo, leggo tutto il possibile.
Questa raccolta di leggende in giro per l'Islanda sembrava proprio l'ideale. Ed è davvero molto bello. Composto da 60 storie, per un viaggio a tutto tondo nella mitologia dell'isola.
E' un libro da centellinare, le storie sono molto simili, all'inizio sono molto interessanti poi tra sacerdoti maestri di magia nera, trollesse, storie d'amore tormentate, visite in paesi magici, dopo un po' iniziano a confondersi l'una con l'altra. Bello eh, ma un po' ripetitivo. Alcune delle storie riportano anche delle illustrazioni molto belle, e per ogni sezione del territorio c'è la mappa.
Insomma, ho apprezzato le storie e l'ambientazione, ma consiglio fortemente di non leggerlo tutto d'un fiato, per non perderne la magia. Io l'ho iniziato con quello spirito ma la seconda parte l'ho letta a piccoli pezzi e l'ho apprezzata molto di più.

Although I've never been there, Iceland is one of those mythical places that unleashes my imagination and where I dream of visiting one day. Meanwhile, I read everything possible about it.
This collection of legends around Iceland looked just right. And it's really very beautiful. Composed of 60 stories, for a round trip in the mythology of the island.
It is a book to sip, the stories are very similar, at the beginning they are very interesting then among master of black magic priests, trollesses, tormented love stories, visits to magical countries, after a while they start to blend into one with the other. Nice, but a little repetitive. Some of the stories also feature very nice illustrations, and for each section of the territory there is the map.
In short, I appreciated the stories and the setting, but I strongly advise you not to read it all in one breath, so as not to lose the magic. I started it with that spirit but the second part I read in small pieces and I appreciated it much more.

Legendary Atlas of the Roads of Iceland

Questa lettura mi è stata consigliata da un'amica carissima, con la quale spesso e volentieri ci scambiamo consigli di lettura, e i suoi sono sempre stati molto azzeccati. E questo ne è l'ennesima conferma.
Il sottotenente Hoffmiller, di stanza in un piccolo centro della provincia a una ventina di chilometri da Vienna, grazie all'intercessione del farmacista viene invitato a cena dalla famiglia del ricco possidente von Kekesfalva. La serata va perfettamente a parte un piccolo incidente con Edith, la figlia del padrone di casa, che è paraplegica. Per rimediare alla sua maleducazione, il giovane e affascinante tenente finirà per diventare un ospite fisso della casa, e la sua gentilezza e assiduità porteranno la giovane Edith a innamorarsi di lui.
Come raccontato all'inizio del libro, ci sono due tipi di compassione: la prima, debole e sentimentale, che è unicamente impazienza del cuore e vuole solo sbarazzarsi il più in fretta possibile della penosa commozione prodotta dall'altrui infelicità; mentre la seconda, più fattiva, decisa a sopportare tutto con pazienza e comprensione. Il giovane Hoffmiller è il modello per la prima, i suoi atteggiamenti, le decisioni che prende sono spesso dettate dall'impulso, dall'impazienza, dalla fretta di far passare in fretta il dolore, senza pensare veramente all'effetto che produrrà.
La vicenda viene svolta con la tecnica del flusso di coscienza, dove il narrante è lo stesso Anton Hoffmiller, circa quindici anni dopo la vicenda.
E seguendo il flusso, il libro scorre fluido, è difficile abbandonare la lettura anche per una semplice pausa. Complice un fine settimana di poco impegno, l'ho finito in due giorni, semplicemente divorandolo ma senza perdermi la bellezza della prosa e le intricate vicende presenti che tutte influiscono sul protagonista e sulle quali egli stesso tende a scaricarne la responsabilità, come fosse il destino a decidere per lui.
Unico neo, probabilmente la prolissità di certe parti usate come pausa di riflessione, ma che rappresentano un artificio dello scrittore per spiegare meglio certi passaggi e farli comprendere in pieno al lettore.

This reading has been recommended to me by a very dear friend, with whom we often exchange reading tips, and her ones have always been very well chosen. And this is yet another confirmation.
Lieutenant Hoffmiller, stationed in a small town in the province about twenty kilometers from Vienna, thanks to the intercession of the pharmacist, is invited to dinner by the family of the rich landowner von Kekesfalva. The evening goes perfectly apart from a small incident with Edith, the daughter of the landlord, who is paraplegic. To remedy his rudeness, the charming young lieutenant will eventually become a regular guest of the house, and his kindness and diligence will lead the young Edith to fall in love with him.
As told at the beginning of the book, there are two types of compassion: the first, weak and sentimental, which is only impatience of the heart and wants only to get rid as quickly as possible of the painful emotion produced by the unhappiness of others; while the second, more active, determined to endure everything with patience and understanding. The young Hoffmiller is the model for the first, his attitudes, the decisions he makes are often dictated by the impulse, by the impatience, by the hurry to make the pain pass quickly, without really thinking about the effect it will produce.
The story is carried out with the technique of the stream of consciousness, where the narrator is the same Anton Hoffmiller, about fifteen years after the story.
And following the flow, the book flows smoothly, it is difficult to abandon reading even for a simple pause. Accomplice a weekend of little effort, I finished it in two days, simply devouring it but without losing the beauty of the prose and the intricate present events that all affect the protagonist and on which he tends to discharge the responsibility, as if it were destiny to decide for him.
The only flaw, probably the prolixity of certain parts used as a pause for reflection, but which represent an artifice of the writer to better explain certain passages and make them fully understandable for the reader.

Settembre è sempre un mese di transizione, si ricomincia a pensare produttivamente, il clima è ancora caldo e ancora non ci sentiamo in autunno.
Le mie letture questo mese sono state anche loro un po' in passaggio, tra le atmosfere lussureggianti delle isole Samoa di Mario Vargas Llosa e il freddo climatico e politico di altri.
Ovviamente, è stato uno degli eventi del mese l'uscita del libro di Margaret Atwood, I Testamenti, l'attesissimo seguito di Il Racconto dell'Ancella. Comprato il pomeriggio che è uscito e letto in due giorni, ha ripagato completamente l'attesa. Meraviglioso!
Cosa mi darà ottobre dal punto di vista delle letture? Sicuramente un libro preso in biblioteca (prenotato) e uno di Ian McEwan in arrivo da Amazon, attesissima storia breve sulla Brexit.
Ci si rivede da queste parti il 1 novembre, fate i bravi!
