Questo libro racchiude sette interviste da lei rilasciate mesi dopo la morte di JFK, in cui parla degli anni della vita alla Casa Bianca, della vita accanto a quello che era l'uomo più potente del mondo.
C'é ovviamente molto spazio per la politica e i protagonisti della vita politica del tempo, molti dei quali probabilmente alla gioventù d'oggi e ai NonAmericani diranno poco e niente. Ma c'è soprattutto il ruolo della First Lady, i suoi doveri e i suoi viaggi di rappresentanza, la campagna presidenziale, le abitudini private del Presidente. Sembra quasi una chiacchierata tra due amici che ricordano i bei tempi andati, in cui sempre fulgida splende la stella del Presidente scomparso. Non c'è spazio per pettegolezzi di bassa lega o richiami alle innumerevoli donne del marito, Jackie si mostra sempre e comunque come una moglie innamorata e affettuosa di un marito irreprensibile. La stessa Caroline, nell'introduzione, afferma che queste interviste sono state il modo di Jackie di continuare a far vivere la memoria di Kennedy, un lascito per le future generazioni. Perchè le donne passano, ma la sua memoria, il suo pensiero, la sua mente, l'immagine che aveva della vita devono continuare.
Un libro molto interessante, imprescindibile per conoscere davvero e sempre meglio uno dei presidenti degli Stati Uniti più importanti e la sua meravigliosa moglie, un mondo scomparso ma che rivive in queste pagine.

Of course, there are a lot of pages about politics and the main characters of the politic life of that time, I suppose that a lot of that names are pretty unknown for the young people of today and for the Non-Americans. But, most of all, there is her role as First Lady, her duties and the representative travels, the presidential campaign, the private habits of the President. It looks like a chat of two friends, remembering the good old times, always shining the star of the President. There is no place for gossip of questionable tale or recalls to the President's women, Jackie always looks like a fond and affectionate wife of a flawless husband. Caroline herself, in the introduction, says that these interviews have been the way of Jackie to keep alive the memory of Kennedy, a legacy for future generations. Because his lovers pass, but his legacy, his thinking, his mind, his idea of life must continue.
A very interesting book, essential to understand and really know one of the most important President of the United States and his wife, a passed away world living again in these pages.
