Un viaggio a 400° intorno alla cultura statunitense. Ci sono tutti, Hemingway, Fitzgerald, Alien Ginsberg, Kerouac, Joyce Carol Oates, Nelson Algren, Anais Nin, Erica Jong, Henry Miller. E poi tanti musicisti, come Bob Dylan, Patti Smith, Kurt Cobain. Pezzi sulla Beat Generation, sugli Yuppies, sul Grunge.C'è tutto. Ma soprattutto c'è tantissimo amore di Fernanda Pivano verso questo paese. Traspare da ogni pagina, da ogni pezzo. Da ogni singolo dettaglio raccontato, dai suoi abbracci con autori mitici, il baciamano che uno degli scrittori più irriverenti al mondo le fa quando la saluta. Sarebbe impossibile riportare tutto in questa recensione. Ma riporto qui quello che ha lasciato a me: l'immagine di una donna che amava profondamente quello che faceva e gli Stati Uniti.
Chissà cosa ne penserebbe adesso. Forse è meglio così, che non lo veda.

There is everything. But most of all there is all that love Fernanda Pivano had for that country. It shows through every page, every chapter. By any single detail told, her hugs with mythical writers, the kiss on the hand that one of the most irreverent writers in the world has made to greet her. It would be impossible to report everything in this review. But I report what this reading has left to me: the image of a woman who deeply loved her life and the United States.
Who knows what she's think about the present situation. Maybe it's better she doesn't know.
