Siamo in un Giappone distopico, dove quarantadue ragazzini, un'intera classe di terza media, viene rapita, narcotizzata e spedita in un'isola disabitata, dove parteciperanno al Programma, organizzato dal governo. Il "gioco" consiste nell'uccidersi a vicenda, e colui o colei che sopravvivrà sarà il vincitore del gioco. Ognuno di loro ha al collo un collare, che segnala costantemente la loro posizione e registra le loro conversazioni, ed è dotato di un sacco che contiene, assolutamente in modo casuale, un'arma. Così che, nel caso più totale, c'è chi può contare su una mitragliatrice e chi, invece, sulla corda di un strumento musicale.
C'è uno studio dell'animo umano incredibile, fatto attraverso le vicende di questi ragazzini. C'è chi continua a lottare per restare umano, chi non sente alcuna emozione e partecipa al gioco, chi dubita degli altri, chi decide di non partecipare in alcun modo e si suicida, chi ricorre ai sotterfugi, chi alla tecnologia... insomma, è davvero una lettura incredibile.
Sono 663 pagine, ma io le ho lette in tre giorni. Non riuscivo a staccarmi, è stata un'esperienza di completo assorbimento in un libro, ne dovevo parlare con chiunque, interessato o no. Inoltre, pur sembrando tanti 42 personaggi, l'autore riesce a centellinarli perfettamente, senza mai caricare chi legge.
Insomma, un capolavoro della letteratura distopica, con i tipici tratti della letteratura giapponese.
Nota a margine, da questo libro sono stati tratti un manga e un film, ma se sul primo non posso esprimermi, del secondo ho visto qualche spezzone e dopo il libro non fa paura proprio per niente... non so se per gli "effetti speciali" di qualità infima, o per la recitazione che è abbastanza da cani. O probabilmente entrambi.
Se volete avvicinarvi a questa storia, assolutamente il libro.
E adesso torno a quel momento in cui è difficile scegliere cosa leggere dopo, perchè qualunque cosa non sarà a quel livello.

In my case, this was the perfect book to read. I came from a not beautiful period, and I needed something strong, something that pulled out emotions. On a human level, I would have preferred something better than this carnage, but you find what you are looking for.
We are in a dystopian Japan, where forty-two kids, an entire third-year class, is kidnapped, narcotized and sent to an uninhabited island, where they will participate in the Program, organized by the government. The "game" consists in killing each other, and the one who survives will be the winner of the game. Each of them has a collar around his neck, constantly indicating their position and recording their conversations, and is equipped with a sack containing, absolutely randomly, a weapon. So that, in the most total case, there are those who can count on a machine gun and who, instead, on the string of a musical instrument.
There is an incredible study of the human soul, done through the events of these kids. There are those who continue to struggle to remain human, those who do not feel any emotion and participate in the game, who doubts others, who decides not to participate in any way and commit suicide, those who resort to subterfuge, who technology... in short , it's really an incredible reading.
It's made by 663 pages, but I read them in three days. I could not get away, it was an experience of complete absorption in a book, I had to talk to anyone, interested or not. Moreover, even if it seems that 42 characters are too many, the author manages to sip it perfectly, without ever loading the reader.
In short, a masterpiece of dystopian literature, with the typical traits of Japanese literature.
Side note, from this book have been drawn a manga and a movie, but if I cannot express myself on the first, I saw some pieces of the second and after the book it is not scary at all... I do not know if for the "special effects" of the lowest quality, or for the terrible acting. Or probably both.
If you want to approach this story, absolutely the book.
And now I go back to that moment when it is difficult to choose what to read after, because anything will not be at that level.
